Of course, this also affected people who were neither male nor female, and those who sexually identified as their opposite gender, or believed that they had no gender at all, and so on. Even more so, such cases regarding a blending of the two genders or having a different gender identity are so rare that discrimination towards these genders is inevitable. Nevertheless, both sexual minority groups (people of different sexual orientations and identities) were discriminated and forced into hiding. As a result of the closeted nature of many sexual minorities, they were only further shamed in society, considered by some as “weird.” As decades, scores, and even centuries passed by, the lack of activism and revolution consolidated the stigma of being a sexual minority even more. Although acceptance has greatly increased in the twenty-first century, the stigma of being a sexual minority still lingers.
