For just a second I would like to take you into the shoes of migrant farmers. Why they are here, what do they do, and what their work entails. The first person I’m going to talk about is Angel*. Why is our immigration system so hard to navigate? Well to even start to comprehend the answer to this question I have decided to start at the root of it all. The H2a visa. In fact farm owners themselves in much of central and southern united states are voicing their opinion that the H2a is affecting the agriculture industry in a detrimental way. According to National Public Radio the visa is in its third consecutive delayed year. And Boswell associated with the American Farm Bureau is now stating that domestic farm labor has almost completely dried up (Boswell). So shouldn’t there be an easier more reliable way to get the farm industry and migrant farmers what they need? Because the system that is laid out right now is not doing it’s job. The H2a is designed to allow migrant farmers to come to the united states and provide the working hands that employers need while at the same time giving preference to American workers. But quite frankly American workers do not want the jobs they are offered and with so many people unemployed it is making a barrier so that employers are not allowed to file for H2a workers.
