Immunity! To start with a personal experience, I have a brother who is almost two years old, Cullen. My family put Cullen in a school that also was a day care for babies. Cullen being around lots of sick babies ultimately got sick too all the time. Thinking about it having him exposed to those germs and bacteria will in the end build a strong immune system for him. So, immunity refers to resistance to disease. The innate defense system and the adaptive defense system. The innate defense system is when you are born with it you just have it. And adaptive means you get it later. The innate system has surface barriers, and mucous membranes that will trap pathogens. There is a chemical that is released from the cells that call for white blood cells. That is called leukocytosis which responds for the white blood cells to the injury. How does the white blood cell leave though? Margination and diapedesis. Starting with margination which is clinging to the capillary wall to the diapedesis which flattens the which blood cells and squeezes out of the capillaries. The movement towards the chemical signal is called chemotaxis. The neutrophil is also known as the white blood cells that respond to these sorts of situations. Chemical defense that we have are interferons, which are proteins that secreted by virally infected cells that bond to healthy cells and prevent the virus from bonding. Basically, the name interferons it is a protein that interferes with viral replications. In addition, tot interferes there is complement proteins, which will punch holes in the infected cells and literally blow them up.
