After viewing the segment from the documentary Into the Circle: An Introduction to Native American Pow-wow. I learned that many centuries ago before the European settlers arrived in North America, the Native Americans danced around in what they called a drum circle. Throughout the journey many Native Americans died, an because of that many Native Americans fusion old and new traditions together. This was the beginning of Pow-wow’s becoming a celebration for the Native American who survive from the journey and overcame the poverty of the move. Essentially, the Pow-wow became a symbol for the Native American tribes to honor those who had overcame the destitution. The Pow-Wows made the reunion more meaningful and helped the tribes find a connection to the Native Americans traditions before the move.
In the 19th Century, the non Native American settlers made a huge migration to the West of the state. The Native Americans would dance to entertain those non Native Americans settler’s who were traveling west. Their shows were called “Wild West Shows: featuring Cowboys and Indians battles.” But after the settler’s migration to the West the Native Americans created new dances for other reasons, because of the migration this caused the Pow-Wows to change. The Native American tribes now created War Dances, that were all based on prior drum dance customs, to dance around their drum
