“Every ethnic minority, in seeking its own freedom, helped strengthen the fabric of liberty in American life.” This is Kennedy’s way of showing that immigrants strengthen our country. “What is the point of a nation in which one part seems to be always on the verge of fisticuffs with another, blacks and whites, gays and straights, left and right, pole and chinese and puerto rican and slovenian? This is just one way she points out that we as a nation don’t get along how we’re supposed to. We as a nation shouldn’t work like this!
