Jack Wilson Dialectical Journal

Day One, I’m a bloody coward. We encountered a lion and I bolted. I’m really not sure what came over me, but they are a damn terrifying thing in person. I talked with Wilson about it and he assured me everything was fine. No one outside our party would hear about it, and they’d have another chance tomorrow. Hopefully tomorrow I don’t make a massive fool of myself.

Day Two,

Today it only got worse. The lion was roaring all night and I was awake with fear. I just sat in bed unable to sleep. Its roar sounded like it was right in the camp, even though Wilson said it was probably a mile or so away. Its roar really carries far.

We’d later find the lion along the stream and yet again I’d prove myself to be a coward. I was shaking the whole time from the night, and couldn’t stop. I hit him twice but didn’t bring him down, so he went into the grass. We had to go in and finish him, except the moment he got up I turned and ran. Bolted like a damn rabbit. Wilson finished him for me. I should have just let Wilson go in himself and stayed back. He offered to but I didn’t want to look a coward again. Margot completely ignored me and instead did the dastardly thing of kissing Wilson on the lips. I don’t know why she’d do that.

We came across three bulls and cut them off before they could get to the swamp with the car. We sped in front and I jumped out and started firing, Wilson and I brought down two and we had to hop back in the car to chase the third, but we successfully brought him down before he escaped. The feeling was unlike anything I’ve ever felt before, it was truly exhilarating. I’m not really sure how to describe it other than that. Margot seemed upset about the bulls, but I don’t really care. I’m here to hunt and it felt damn good to actually be doing so. If she has a problem she can stay back next
