Jamaica Kincaid. Jamaica Kincaid, writer with an important voice in literature, widely praised for her works of short fiction stories, novels, and essays in which she shows reality, expectations of society and problems between mother and daughter relationship. Based on her exceptional work as a writer, Kincaid has earned a reputable place in the literary world for her highly personal, stylistic, and honest writings. Her literature shows her personality by reflecting how she think, concern and describe herself in the way that her character growth up in the short story “Girl.” The story is a mirror of kincaid’s childhood.
The relationship between Jamaica Kincaid and her character in “Girl”. The short story consists of a sentence of advice a mother to her daughter, only twice interrupted by the girl to defend herself. She intends the advice to both help her daughter and scold her at the same time. Her teachers frequently found her attitude rude and considered her a troublemaker.
