A student in the dualism stage may want to do as an advisor suggested whereas their team members in the relativism stage may want to give everyone in the group a chance to explain why their method is better before choosing. The latter is a better method for making decisions in most group settings, and can be used as a learning experience for the first student to help them move on to the next stages. The Intuitive-projective and mythic-lyrical stage occur in early childhood and tend to except ideas of God and religion as told to them by their parents and society. In stage 3, synthetic-conventional, people have the beliefs of those in their social circle and their authority figures, they can’t see outside of their “bubble”. Most people will remain in this stage, therefore it is what is most common on a college campus.
In the fourth stage, Individuative-reflective, people begin to critically examine their faith and belief system. They realize that there are other faiths and may even look into them, but this does not mean they no longer believe. Conjunctive faith is a stage often entered later in life where the person realizes that not everything will have a logical answer and they come to accept the unanswered questions.
