Jasper Dent Character Analysis

Jasper Dent, referred to as Jazz, is the son of the famous serial killer, Billy Dent. His mother died when he was 9. Jazz suspects that this was the work of Billy, although no evidence was found at the scene. Ever since his father’s arrest four years ago, Jazz’s friends have gravitated away from him. They possess a fear that Jazz will become the man his father was. Billy raised Jazz to become his trained companion once he got old enough, but his early arrest causes all his hard work to haunt Jazz.
Jasper is socially avoided by most of the kids at his school. Before his dad was given the title of a serial killer, Jazz had been quite popular. He is, and was, very athletic, good looking, and intelligent. However, most of the guys at his school are no longer fond of Jazz not because of his dad, but his physical appearance. Jazz is handsome and muscular. When he is walking down the hall, he can feel the number of eyes looking at him. He has blond hair, blue eyes, and is a little under six feet tall. He is a master at manipulation. He can always make himself appear as if he does no wrong, even in situations where punishment seems inevitable. His grandma, who has custody of Jazz, has been going mentally insane. He manages to coax the social workers enough to make them believe that his grandma is stable enough to support Jazz. If evidence is ever found that she is a hair away from Crazytown, USA, he will be transferred to a foster home. He uses this attribute to become friends with the local law enforcement. His gory, messed up childhood has caused trust and mental issues, and he does his best to disguise these. He is very intelligent, and uses this to provide insight from the murderer’s perspective. He may be the offspring of a serial killer, but he would rather die than become one
