Elder Dorothy: You were given the story of Ruth from the bible to study and think on, analyzing the lessons from that story and keeping in mind our theme for the year. Tell us what message do you have for the young women today?
Jackie: To the elders in the community especially to all you young ladies like myself, the message to me come in the form of a question after I read the story of Ruth the second time, and the question to us is this, how did the whole town know Ruth was a “virtuous woman” ? In chapter 3:11 it states in part… for all the people of my town, know that you are a “virtuous woman”, will this be said about me? Will this be said about you? If being a virtuous woman was common, the question would not need to be asked, the word “virtuous” meaning power, strength, strong and powerful in what way? What did Ruth do that was virtuous? Proverbs 31: 17 says, ‘she grid herself with strength, and strengthen her arms” also verse 25 it says “strength and honors are her clothing she shall rejoice in time to come “if you take time to read the story of Ruth at least two times and meditate on it, then read proverbs 31: 10 – 31 you will see the verses in proverbs 31 are reflection of Ruth story.
