Journal entry number one:
I never thought that Father would have us move away from our home. I just come home one day only to be told that we have to leave my house! I don’t understand why he did it though, I was perfectly happy with where we were before moving out to this dreary place. I wonder if Father understands what he is doing to this family by moving us out here. When I got home that day and talked to Mother, what she said really didn’t help me like this dreaded place. I don’t have any friends, nor do I see any boys my age to play with. Father and I have always seen eye to eye before, but why must he be on the wrong side of this and go against me? According to The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne, Mother says “'Of course we

We have barely just moved in yet I already want to go back home. Gretel isn’t making this much better seeing as all she is doing is being useless as always. At least I have Maria with us still. According to The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne, “'What do you think of all this, Maria?' he asked after a long silence because he had always liked Maria and felt as if she was one of the family, even though Father said she was just a maid and overpaid at that.” That means I really like Maria even though I’m not supposed to. She’s nice though, so I don’t really see the problem, even if she is my maid.
Journal entry number four:
If my life was a book and I was to summarize what has happened so far from a spectator’s view, it’ll be this:
In the novel, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne the main character Bruno comes home one day to see his maid is packing up his items, when he goes to his mother and asks her what is happening she explains to him that they are moving because of his father’s job. Upon arriving to his new home, Bruno insists that they got back to their old house, only to be denied by his mother and later on in his room which is where he met a soldier. After awhile he was talking to his sister when he revealed indirectly that there was a big place behind them filled with people in funny outfits.
That’s how I’d describe this experience at the very least.

Out of all the characters in “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas”, I feel Bruno is the most interesting character, because he is a young boy living through the second world war, and who I feel, is rather ignorant of the dangerous and horrific events that surround him. At the very beginning of the novel, Bruno is forced to leave Berlin and his three best friends, Martin, Daniel and Carl, when his father is promoted to commandment of ‘Out-with’. And upon settling into ‘Out-With’, Bruno soon develops a friendship with a Jewish boy working their, called Shmuel, that I believe, through their friendship, shows how innocent Bruno is, and the way in which he changes to a more understanding and aware person. Shortly after the two boys first meet, their friendship soon becomes close knit, and I feel Bruno grows very committed to the…

Bruno is visually representing himself trying to hold onto the belief that his dad is a good man as that belief slips away. Bruno is still trying to fit in with two groups of people that can be seen as polar opposites during World War II: the Nazis and the Jews. He’s expressing how he wants to belong to both of these groups at once, buts he’s struggling to see the Nazis as virtuous people that he wants to belong with. Since Bruno wants to fit in with a group of more agreeable people, the struggle will end in Bruno not fitting in with his father and other individuals like him. This fits in to the bigger theme of how individuals want to be viewed as similar to the group we belong with, whether to look cool or to look like a better…

After reading ‘’My Father’s House’’ by Jarrett Jackson, I instantly thought of a book I had read on Wattpad. In the book that I had read, the characters faced similar conflicts, although the situations were different. I can’t say I fully understand the situation of having two parents divorce because I had never been in that predicament. I can say that I understand how it feels to have parents who aren’t together and how it feels to grow up with your father having another family. I can relate to how the boy felt in the short story because I also had to accept changes that has occurred in my own personal life.…

The book, Night, by Elie Wiesel and the movie The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, demonstrates two completely different perspectives towards the Holocaust. Night, a nonfiction memoir, depicted the life and feelings of a young boy who was forced to endure the harshness and depression of a life in a death camp. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, a heartbreaking movie, based on a fictional novel, shares the inimaginable friendship of a Nazi soldier's son, Bruno, with an imprisoned Jewish boy, Shmuel. Together, they risk their lives to save the young Jew's father. Both stories share the same main topic, the Holocaust during World War II.…
