Both the ancient treaties of Kadesh and the Thirty Years Peace succeeded and failed as a result of the same concept. However, not only do these two treaties succeed or fail as a result of the same concept. The outcome of every treaty in history can be traced back to its completion or failure in the following 4 categories: specificity and completeness of the terms, enforcement of the terms, willingness of the participants, agreement over terms. The Egyptian-Hittite peace treaty was successful because it resulted in lasting, peaceful relations between previously feuding territories; the Thirty Years’ Peace was a failure because only thirteen years after its creation, another Peloponnesian War was declared and fought.
