The Story of an Hour The theme of “ The Story of an Hour” is about death. Death is something common we see or hear about every single day and we don't think much of it, but when someone we know passes away we think it's the most horrible thing in the world. The story gives a great example with the railroad disaster, because when Richards realizes there was a disaster i bet he didn't think much of it until he saw Mr. Mallard’s name on the “killed” list. In the story it says “railroad disaster was received with Brently Mallard’s name leading the list of “killed”. Many people died but Richards mainly focused on one person.
