Keystone Pipeline: Stakeholders Role In Projects

Decent Essays
I agree, that stakeholders play a huge role in projects. Since the “stakeholders are all the people involved in or affected by project activities” (Schwalbe, 2015), sometimes it may be hard to identify all the stakeholders at the beginning of the project. The more stakeholders can be identified at the beginning of the project, the better the project can be managed. Sometimes, failing to identify critical stakeholders (i.e. opponents) can lead to a failure of the project or to significant project delays. One famous example that comes to mind is the Keystone Pipeline. This project has begun, but didn't take all the stakeholders into the consideration, which resulted in project delays and possible failure to finish the project.

Mahatma Gandhi once said, “Earth provides enough to satisfy every man 's needs, but not every man 's greed”. People in this world, even to this very day still yearn for anything they want and perform actions in order to achieve their goals. There have been several instances where we have failed to take time and think about the consequences and impacts our actions could have on society. For the past few years, Canada and the United States have started to build a pipeline that travels through both countries. This pipeline known as the Keystone Pipeline and it carries petroleum across the country.…

Perhaps one of the most widely debated topics, in recent years, is the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline. The completion of the project has been done in multiple phases and one of the last phases scheduled to be completed is the phase 4 extension. This extension would create a pipeline that would trek, around 2000 miles, from Alberta Canada to the gulf coast of Texas (Friends of the Earth). Since the pipeline would cross international borders, approval from congress would be necessary in order to begin construction (NPR). The two main issue points on the topic are the economic gains that could incur from the development of the pipeline and the overall impression on the environment that would ensue from extraction, transportation, and refining of the oil.…

You bring up some great points! Your second paragraph, Vyas as manager verse Vyas as facilitator, is where I centered my analysis and would like to further expand upon. As you pointed out, Vyas surrounded himself with a talented team headed by a manger he previously had a professional relationship with. However, I believe Vyas miscalculated the gravity of the project he took on. The Filtration Unit was not a priority for ART and thus not apart of the “Fast Track Pipeline” program.…

Introduction The Keystone Pipeline was a proposed idea of a pipeline that would run from the oil sands of Canada to Steele City, Nebraska (“Keystone” 1). It would then connect with an existing pipeline that would administer it elsewhere. Since the proposal was for an oil pipeline that would cross international borders, it needed the President’s approval. The idea became such a controversial topic when President Obama stated that six days to decide the fate of this project was not a sufficient amount of time to make a decision.…

The Keystone XL Pipeline is the proposed last segment of the greater Keystone Pipeline project owned by TransCanada which would run from Hardisty, Alberta (in Canada) to Steele City, Nebraska. The proposed pipeline would carry oil sands from Canada to refineries on the Gulf Coast (Cama and Wilson 14).This pipeline would utilize a bitumen-harvesting process which is more environmentally damaging and less efficient than the tradition oil drilling process. Additionally, the pipeline has been controversial due to the environmental hazards tin its operation (Issitt). One of the major groups of protestors to the Keystone Pipeline are Native American Tribes including the Northern Arapaho Tribe, Yankton Sioux Tribe, and Blackfeet tribe. Their feelings…

The Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) remains the most recent pipeline controversy covered in the media. Though the protests inspired government intervention of construction of the pipeline, the concerns regarding pipeline use remains relevant. One of the main concerns of the construction of the DAPL is that if a burst or leak were to occur, it would result in the pollution of the Missouri River, a main water source for hundreds of thousands of people (Kirby). This concern is not unwarranted: The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) stated that the number of significant pipeline incidents grew 26.8% from 2006 to 2015 (Zukowski). The PHMSA and many other pipeline safety organizations have accumulated evidence to show that…

Key Stakeholders Many key stakeholders are involved in the implementation of this project. Residents are obviously involved, as a reduction of behavioural episodes can improve quality of life (Jeon et al. 2012, p. 509). Workloads, and hence costs, for nursing and caring staff can be reduced, as well as less involvement in rectifying behavioural problems (Zeller et al. 2011, pp. 2473-2474).…

The important stakeholders are the people! My personal belief is policy changes at the lower levels, when people actual take the time to speak out and fight for what they need. We are currently experiencing a change in healthcare. A more universal health care has been enforced by our government and is trickling down into communities. This is allowing people to make choices of access.…

A topic that was become highly controversial and sparked debated over the past couple of decades has been smoking tobacco. With an increasing number of studies showing and validating that smoking is harmful to you, many people, the majority being non-smokers, believe that there should be some sort of ban on smoking cigarettes, or even making it illegal. However, every topic has an opposing side and contrary to the thought of banning smoking, a large number of people still think that there should be no law forbidding smoking. A large number of the people who fall into that category are the stakeholders for tobacco. Stakeholders play a large roll in the decision of the topic, as well.…
