Lachlan Macquarie was a Scottish born individual that moved toward becoming Governor of NSW. He was born on the 31st of January 1762 off the Isle Of Ulva, Scotland. He was a child of Margaret and Lachlan Macquarie and was one of six kids in the family. Donald and Charles Macquarie were two of his siblings, and the other three boys were unknown. He just had one sister named Elizabeth or Betty (unknown name) Macquarie. His dad was a carpenter by trade and he earned money for the family.

On the 8 May 1809, Macquarie was appointed captain-general and governor-in-chief of New South Wales and its dependencies. He left for the colony on 22 May 1809, on HMS Dromedary. He arrived on the 28 December at Sydney Cove and landed officially on 31 December, taking up his duties on the following day. He was appointed as past governor William Bligh, was arrested for the Rum Rebellion.
Soon after he arrived, Governor Macquarie started a very large program of developing an infrastructure. During the time he was governor, he had about 265 new buildings constructed. Macquarie built many barracks, forts, courthouses, churches, hospitals and schools, as well as roads to allow people to move around the colony more easily. Francis Greenway played a very integral role in helping Governor Macquarie to get all those buildings built.
In 1814, Macquarie founded the Native Institution for Aboriginal children. The school was based in Parramatta, teaching Reading, Writing and Arithmetic. Macquarie stated that “no child is to leave the school until the age of sixteen”. This was perceived to be the start of the ‘Stolen
