First, being a peer leader gave me the opportunity to mentor ten students throughout the semester and work directly with a Slippery Rock faculty member to teach a one-credit transition course. My responsibilities included demonstrating to students how to schedule and understand their degree audit, educating about effective study habits, introducing them to related clubs and organizations, familiarizing them with campus departments and resources, and talking with them individually to understand their personal transition to Slippery Rock University. With these responsibilities, I had to be a leader and show them what I did to be successful and how they could do the same. Furthermore, being the student direct of Brain Awareness Week: The Brain Basis of Mental Disorders also provided me with a position where I had to demonstrate leadership skills. With this position, I was responsible for coordinating meeting times and completing grants, as well as IRBs.
