The Faceless Enemy The problem with life as we know it, is the fact that we are human. It holds us back because of the time limit that has been placed among everyone on earth. The reality of death makes us try to live each day like it could be our last. Music has helped bring this understanding upon me in a very inspiring way. Lifetime principles and important realizations are often transferred through music such as the simple concepts of living and dying, including the deep analyzation of humbleness that takes real wisdom to apprehend. The point of the song is that we most certainly won’t live forever, and that we should live life to the fullest. The artist’s talks to a man who is terminally ill. Having a shortened life leads him to appreciate all the small things and to have as much fun as possible. This includes doing things that are apart of some type of bucket list. Personally, I have a bucket list of my own. This song makes me want to check off every part to that list. I want to live every day of my life like it’s my last. When asked about how he’s dealing with the terrible news, the terminally ill man says, “I went sky diving, I went rocky mountain climbing… I loved deeper, spoke sweeter…” to show how he really started living his life the way he wanted to live. This hits me deep in the heart because I’ve always had a future imagined for me that seems to never meet reality. I feel inspired to do more, say more, love more, and most of all, feel more. The lyrics say, “You have to lose to know how to win”. This reiterates the principle that you have to continue to fail to learn how to succeed. In knowing this, I reflect on the past to determine decisions in the present without focusing too much on the past. Obviously, the past is always a factor in our current lives, but living strongly in the past makes the present less enjoyable. As I’m learning, living, and dreaming, I’m also growing older and getting wiser. This song has helped me realize that sometimes I need to block out everything and see my present reality for what it
