One example she gave during her speech that persuaded me to agree with her, was when she changed outfits. She showed how the audience’s view about how her looks can cause tension in the room from their first impression of her. Why do we immediately presume ideas about others based on the way they look? Media, in my opinion, has done this to our society. In her modeling photos we think of her as one person, but once she changed outfits, our opinions differed. This shows how media impacts our minds to believe something about someone before getting to know who they truly are.
Another topic she touched on during this video, was how she was introduced to her modeling career. Russel states about how being a white, skinny, and tall female was the key to her to winning the genetic lottery and legacy. Even though she was given free things and was able to “cash-out” on her good looks, she still feels insecure. This comment of hers, made me think about how many young women are insecure, but what they don’t realize is that it’s not about looks.
