He believes that since his father is a big part of the Sighet community he will lead him to survive this time. When they finally arrive at Buchenwald and they finally head toward the showers his father had given up stating, “I can’t go on . . . This is the end . . . I’m going to die here . . .” (Wiesel 100). Elie argues with his father to stand him up and get him to keep going. He realizes that he isn’t arguing his dad anymore but with the death that his father has chosen. The next day he remembers about his dad and how he had left him there. He decides to help his dad again. When he finds him very ill he feels a very deep sorrow for him and decides that trusting his dad that he’ll get through this is the best choice. It was too late though. Instead of him getting better, Elie gets slowed down by his father when his dad starts to eat some of Elie’s ration.
