Macbeth, now a malicious killer, told Lady Macbeth that he has murder Duncan. He explains this by saying, “I have done the deed,” (II, ii, 19). In this quote Macbeth is telling Lady Macbeth that he has executed the plan to kill Duncan. Later in this act the readers learn that Donalbain and Malcolm have devised a plan to flee the country. Donalbain explains their reasoning by saying, “Our separate fortune shall keep us both the safer. Where we are, there’s daggers in men’s smiles,” (II, iv, 163). This is saying that Malcolm and Donalain must flee to separate countries to stay safe because there is something unusual with Duncan’s murder and they cannot trust anyone. These quote show that because of Macbeth’s actions Donalbain and Malcolm have to flee which raises suspicion with other characters, therefor advancing the plot.
Also Macbeth develops the plot during the banquet when he draws suspicion towards himself. Ross, a trusted nobleman of Scotland, tells the others at the dinner that they should all leave. “Gentlemen, rise. His Highness is not well,” (III, iv, 63) he exclaims. Ross is saying that Macbeth is acting strange and is not well, so they should all leave the banquet. This quote shows the growing suspicion during the rising action that will eventually lead to the
