The Mantis shrimp is an amazing overlooked creature. It is often overlooked due to the fact that it cannot be contained in aquariums because of its incredibly powerful “arms”. The Mantis shrimp can expand its front two limbs at an astonishing 1,800 feet per second. This speed, which is equal to a .22 caliber bullet, makes the Mantis shrimp the proud owner of the fastest moving animal title. Mantis shrimp are also very territorial and fight one another often. You would expect these fights not to last long due to each shrimp’s powerful blow however, a new study shows that the shrimp do not hit one another with great force but instead attempt to see who can hit the other the fastest.
