In AD 96, Trajan was named the governor of Upper Germany. Later in the year AD 97, Trajan was informed through a note, stating his adoption. Meaning that Nerva had adopted Trajan as his own son. Nerva had then later died in AD 98 on January 28. Trajan was highly respected and thought to be powerful, so his adoption was a wonderful way to clear the hate that army had toward Nerva. Trajan returned to Rome with his army and were executed at arrival. Although Trajan returned to Rome, he did not return for the authority of Nerva. Due to the execution upon arrival, it was known that with Trajan and his army present, the government of Rome was not to be messed
