Dr. King was awarded The Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 at the age of 35 years old. He is remembered each year on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a U.S. Federal Holiday since 1986. Sadly, Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968, at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of 39.
“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” This famous speech was given on August 28, 1963, on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. In front of 250,000 Civil Rights supporters, King called for an end to racism in America. This speech was very powerful and important to the Civil Rights movement.
In conclusion, Martin Luther King Jr. was a great man who was very influential in trying to bring all people together. If it wasn’t for his bravery and courage, African Americans and whites might still be separated today.
