The two most common forms of motivation that people would have within a business are monetary motivation and nonmonetary motivation. Monetary motivation is a form of several reward systems that are all financially based, such as project bonuses, commissions etc. Monetary motivation, however is not all ways ideal as this form of motivation can easily encourage complacency within the employee as they would rather perform the task in a way that they know they would get paid, rather than being innovative and a risk-taker. This could also be detrimental to co-workers or management and employee because rather than working towards a common goal, one will work towards their own interests and workers will end up being competitors.
Nonmonetary motivation has a wider variety of rewards as these motivations are generally tailored to personal interests and internal motivation rather than a ‘general’ reward. Different forms of nonmonetary motivation could include flexible working hours, promotions etc. There are fewer problems with nonmonetary motivation compared to monetary motivation because according to personal statuses.
