The rise in mental illness has recently hit historically high levels with American’s awaiting a solution to this epidemic; hope has been found within an ancient Buddhist practice that is still common within Eastern cultures. This analysis will frame Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction or MBSR through the biopsychosocial model in order to illustrate it’s relation to Health Psychology. Through taking into account the importance of the biopsychosocial model connection in relation to overall human health; this is a well rounded framework that Health Psychologists have been using for decades.

First, that humans are usually performing on an auto-pilot mode that is inattentive to their moment-to-moment experiences (Grossman et al, 2003). Secondly, humans have the ability to develop and manage the attention that is given to conscious thought (Grossman et al, 2003). Third, this ability requires habitual practice in order to develop it (Grossman et al, 2003). Fourth, by utilizing this practice the moment-to-moment awareness technique, it will produce a clearer sense of life by replacing the unconscious reactivity that usually occurs (Grossman et al, 2003).
