In order to create change and inspire women we need to start with our media portrayals of women. Hollywood has several stereotypes of women that focus on women being subordinate to men, emotional, craving romance with men, and sometimes even competing against men, but rarely in a position power. There are only 16 percent of female protagonists in films. Female protagonists today are often expressed in a negative light with bad characteristics and are typically over-powered by a male subordinate.
Women are often prompted to anti-age or have procedures to help them look better in Hollywood. Women past 30 are rarely portrayed in television. Reality T.V. often promotes women to change their looks and portray stereotypes of being "catty", "stupid", "gold diggers", and that can not be trusted by other women. Women are objectified in all areas of media and women in similar fields are often penned against one another. This is why feminism still exists today, women are still dealing with patriarchal control in all elements of life. Men hold master statuses because as a society we have allowed them to do so, with women self-objecting themselves and with us constantly teaching our boys that they are different, if not better than girls. We are still teaching our sons and daughters outdated traditional gender roles. Though there have been many contributions and activists changing this mindset we still have many people that look to keep women from truly holding power. We even have news that strips women of power by showing female celebrities and gossip rather than showing actual
