Fahrenheit 451 is a dystopian novel written by Ray Bradbury. The book was published in 1953. The protagonist, Guy Montag, burns people’s illegally owned books for a living because they promote creativity and free thinking, something that is banned in their society. After Montag meets and has a long talk with seventeen-year-old Clarisse McClellan, he becomes dissatisfied with where he is in life and starts to question if books are actually unprofessional. Eventually, Montag starts to steal philosophical books from people’s houses. As of a result, Montag gets into a serious predicament with his boss, Beatty. Fahrenheit 451 can be assessed more as a Modernist text, than a Postmodern one, in that it promotes taking risks in order to achieve morality.
The civilization Bradbury describes is, in many ways, compares to a similar society that we are experiencing now. People in today’s society, as well as, Fahrenheit 451, are comparable in that they’re given rules and guidelines that they have to abide by. As discussed earlier, taking the risk of having everything you own being burned in order to expand your knowledge and stand up for what is right is logical. The literary feature I analyzed is important, because it inspires staying truthful to yourself as a human being with rights. I believe that no one should be punished for simply doing what they think is right. In conclusion, Fahrenheit 451 will go down as one of the most unique and unusual books I have ever read. It’s quick plot twists and messages always kept me wanting to read
