After watching "My Cousin Vinny", viewers understand that Billy Gambini and Stan Rothenstein accidentally shoplifted a can of tuna while stopping at a convenience store. After they leave the store, the clerk is shot and killed, and Billy and Stan are arrested in connection with the murder. Due to circumstantial evidence and a confession to shoplifting misconstrued as one to the shooting, Billy is charged with murder, and Stan is charged as an accessory. The pair call Billy's mother, who tells her son that there is an attorney in the family, his cousin Vinny. Furthermore, the defensive side clearly stated a not guilty plea against the state of Alabama. When declaring these two men 'not guilty' comes with trial and error with cousin Vinny. It took cousin Vinny multiple times to finally understand what the judge wanted out of him. Therefore, cousin Vinny started persuading the audience of Alabama as well as the jury in the stands that this whole case was …show more content…
In the sac-of-suds parking lot were two tire marks. In court, Vito stated "The car that made these two, equal-length tire marks had positraction. You can't make those marks without positraction, which was not available on the '64 Buick Skylark"("My Cousin Vinny") This clearly states that the two men in the court room did not make those marks and she went on to say "now, in the '60's, there were only two other cars made in America that had positraction, and independent rear suspension, and enough power to make these marks. One was the Corvette, which could never be confused with the Buick Skylark. The other had the same body length, height, width, weight, wheel base, and wheel track as the '64 Skylark, and that was the 1963 Pontiac Tempest"("My Cousin Vinny") Also, since both of these cars were made by GM, they both were offered in a mint green paint. This testimony proved there were two other men out there that did this

The jury is a mix of opinion on the war and the definition of treason. Both the defendant and prosecutor give their opening arguments that were both expertly prepared and everyone in the courtroom knew it was going to be a long, intense trial. The prosecutor’s main argument was that Jefferson was guilty of treason because everyone in that courtroom had strong connection to Great Britain in some way and for Jefferson to go against the country that gave him the right to live in American was by definition treason. Adams rebottled with the claim that Jefferson was not guilty by the fact that treason was necessary in response to the tyranny that was forming in Great…

Forum Five – Inez Great post Inez and thank you for your comments in my post. At first it is hard to believe the story of Powell v. Alabama or even Gideon. Hard to fathom so many people standing by and watching nine kids tried without at least some advantages the opposing side had in court. Or in Gideon, allowing an uneducated guy that could not defend himself go to prison for some missing liquor and change, is hard to believe. And in both cases, the letter of the law was followed but that actually shielded the injustices in both cases.…

I have always heard good things about the film “My Cousin Vinny”, but never got around to watching it. The film follows the experiences of two young men mistaken for murderers in fictional Beechum County, Alabama. When the boys, Bill Gambini (Ralph Macchio) and Stan Rothenstein (Mitchell Whitfield), discover that they weren’t being held for theft of a tuna can, but instead for murder, they anxiously call their families for help. The family employs Bill’s cousin, Vinny (Joe Peschi), a New York lawyer who passed his bar examination six weeks earlier (after six tries), to defend them. It is not only Vinny's first time in Alabama (which is quite clear from his entrance), but it is also his first time inside a courtroom as a practicing attorney.…

In the film, the District was accurate in some depictions, but was not entirely accurate in their depictions of the legal procedure, as the two men accused of murder were interrogated without a counsel. However, one can argue that they waived this right by not remaining silent. It is unknown whether the two young men were ever read their rights which is an important part of the legal procedure. Ultimately, the film My Cousin Vinny, was fairly accurate in representing the legal procedure that occurs in a murder trial despite leaving out pretrial motions and the specifics of gathering oral…

I headed into the courtroom of Judge Thomas Marcelain to observe my first courtroom trial. The trial involved a 31-year-old man named, Daniel Bohanna, of Pataskala. Mr. Bohanna decided to represent himself in his trial for fear of misrepresentation. He was charged with rape, kidnapping, and felonious assault. I have seen footage on T.V. from famous trials and of course seen reenactments from Hollywood, but I have never been to one in person until now.…

The jury disregarded all of the reasonable doubt shown, and declared them guilty without even much deliberation. Despite this verdict, the defense had expected this and were ready to appeal the verdict. New evidence arose after the trial, and this evidence should have cleared the two of all guilt.…
