The “Social Worker” article written by The U.S Department of Labor informs me about the duties I would have when pursuing this career. It writes, “Social workers typically do the following: […] [h]elp clients adjust to changes and challenges in their lives, such as illness, divorce, or unemployment […,] [e]valuate services provided to ensure that they are effective […,and] [p]rovide psychotherapy services” (United States). Once I graduated from Valencia with an AA degree in general study by the summer of 2018, I will be transferring to UCF to receive my BSW to become a “social worker.” My goal is to graduate UCF by the year 2021. My childhood is what lead me into this career due to the fact that I had a lot of “changes” during my preteens years from my parent’s “divorce.” I started facing many “challenges” because I did not have both of my parents and did not feel like I had emotional support. I would like to “help” those that feel the way I did, so that they do receive the “services” that are “effective” in their personal cases. I do not believe that if in an unhappy marriage, you should stay in the relationship, but neither should you make your children’s “lives” difficult due to a “divorce.” Seeing my mother be abused I understood why she felt the way she did towards my father, she was depressed from the past “challenges” she had faced in an unhealthy relationship. I noticed she was traumatized and till this day she cannot stand to hear my father’s name. I believe
