Aldous Huxley says “Experience is not what happens to a man: it is what a man does with what happens to him”. Being a victim of typhoid fever outbreak while I was a senior in high school in Nigeria, West Africa; the death of my favorite uncle from the co-infection of HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C, tailored my career towards communicable diseases and public health. Secondly, the field of public health is a call to serve, its rewards transcend beyond the pay, the job satisfaction that comes from improving the health and well-being of people on a daily basis is priceless. People, in their millions are alive and healthy today because of several public health programs. When it comes to public health, it is all about the greater good of the human race; this is one of the goals of public health that I resonate with me. Lastly, public health is arguably the only profession that brings professionals from various walks of life working together as a team for the common good of a community, state, nation and the world at large.
