I never really anticipated the feeling that would come when I received my eagle, globe and anchor but I can tell you now it is my proudest moment to date. When Staff Sergeant Anwar handed me the EGA I became a little emotional. I completed the most difficult tasks that I have ever been put through and he was rewarding me with recognition, the becoming of a Marine. From that day on I devoted all my energy and time towards becoming an excellent Marine. With that being said, my experiences in the Marine Corps are going to propel me to become the best student I can while attending Colorado Christian University. The Marines have taught me a multitude of life lessons and one of them is definitely discipline. When it comes to my academics at CCU, I will strive for good grades because of the discipline instilled in me from my tribulations. I honestly didn’t take my time at American River College as seriously as I should have but I believe my next step will be to improve my grades with the help of my rekindled discipline. Not only is my discipline going to give me a leg up in my new academic setting, my notorious hard work will also be a factor. I could only complete 10 pull-ups and I improved upon that to get to 18 pull-ups. Then I needed to improve my three mile run. Typically I could run it in about 21:00 but I strove to lower that mark and got it all the way down to 19:45. The hard work paid off and I was promoted in January of this year to the rank of Corporal. This hard work that I have displayed will be put forth into my degree because I have two routes that I am examining as I complete school. I either want to join the police department or become a mustang so that I can apply to become an officer in the Marines. Being a Marine was something that I thought about for a long time. I spent the first years of my life on Marine Corps bases because my dad is also a Marine. Even though we moved a lot during those years, we always found a church and time for God. I believe that God has led me to this place in my life and I have to have faith that he will guide me thru the decisions that I will make about my future.
