How is the room organized?
This teacher is in a unique situation. He does not have a homeroom instead he travels around from room to room. This means that he has to be extra organized because all his resource materials are at his desk in the art room. I asked him about how he keeps himself organized and he had a few strategies. He uses a cart to help him carry around his materials, he loads the cart up every morning with the material he needs. He has his curriculum organized by grade and each grade is assigned a color of binder. This way he can look his at cart and know if he has his materials for 8th grade, 7th grade, 6th grade. This seem to be an established routine because students came in sat down and began working on their warm-up question. I thought this was a great idea because it helped students focus on the subject matter right away. It also gave the teacher time to set up for the lesson, which is very crucial for this teacher because he does not have a homeroom. Another teaching move I observed was giving time for student to form an answer. He did this by proposing a questions and then instead of asking for an answer immediately he let students discuss the answer in their groups. After a minute he asked the group leader to stand if their group was ready to answer. He then had the group leaders sit down and asked for a volunteer. I like this strategy because it gave students time to formulate their answer and took the stress out of speaking in front of people. I think this is a great strategy because it helps to engage all population. Students that are slower to form their answers have the time they need to think and are able to participate in
