I believe it is our job to guide teachers, counselors and other school personnel in identifying books that will help students in certain situations. This past year, as I have become more familiar with children’s literature, I have worked with the speech therapist, occupational therapist, school psychologist and ELL teacher in searching and choosing literature that will help meet their needs. These staff members are always appreciative and say people rarely think of helping them find resources. I believe it is important that we include these professionals when choosing literature.

18). I work with mostly the teachers and counselor to gather books and resources for use to help students identify with, cope with, and develop empathy for children dealing with challenges. The counselor and I work close to take note of books that can be used in her counseling individuals, small groups and in general lessons. At the beginning of the school year, I worked with a teacher to help her class understand a student that is dealing with autism. We chose the book “My Brother Charlie” by Holly Robinson Peete and Ryan Elizabeth Peete as a picture book read. We also chose “Rules” by Cynthia Lord, for a novel
