The annotations I struggled with the most. They were the most difficult for me. I still struggle with the annotations, but they are not as difficult for me as they were when I first started the class. As a writer, I can write what I feel or what I’m thinking whether it’s exceptional or poor. There was a time where I could not write anything due to the fact I simply did not know how to explain the text in my own words. You as a teacher showed me this was possible by reminding me repeatedly to use my own words. I just wish I could have been able

This essay stands out in my mind because of its relatable topic; pretty much everyone at some point or another has struggled with writing, whether they care to admit it or not. Lamott realizes this, which spurred her on to trying to help audiences to realize that no one writes perfectly at first, and that brainstorming by write without caring inevitably breeds perfection. First drafts, as Lamott reveals, are “The child’s draft, where you let it all pour out and then let it romp all over the place, knowing that not one is going to see it and that you can shape it later” (222). For instance, whenever a person starts a new writing, thousands of thoughts and words are echoing through their heads. Not knowing where to begin or what to first write down.…

I chose to write about the essay “Do your best” This essay really hit home for me. I also had a fifth grade teacher named Mr. Okey. I first met Mr. Okay, 3yrs prior when he substituted for my 2nd grade class. He was a kind, gentle soul, he looked like Santa Clause, and he wore tweed dress coats with patches on the elbow. He served in the Korean War, and was a world traveler.…

When Mesopotamians carved their first words on walls, a new technology to communicate emerged to humans. Various civilizations that followed created a similar system of communicating and documenting everything from their thoughts, social structures, feelings, to their ideas. The Egyptians documented their journeys through Hieroglyphics. Mesoamericans documented theirs through Zapotic, Olmec and Mayan scriptures. These scriptures weren’t random scribbles by any means.…

My tenth-grade experience summed up in one word would be “impactful”. It impacted me in a way that my previous school years could never compare to. The past few years in school involved compliments from teachers who believed I had the work ethic and the smarts to be put in an honor’s class. Only for them to never put me in an honor’s class. The phrase “you should be in the honor’s classes” rung repeatedly in my head to the point where it didn’t seem like a compliment anymore, it seemed like a constant jab at the fact that I wasn’t in the honor’s classes.…

It was a cold, winter morning. The frigid air blew as I turned to pull the handle on the door to the main building of my small high school. After entering the doorway, I dragged my feet across the floor and trudged through the empty hallway. As I peeked through each of the door windows, I saw nothing but dark, empty classrooms. It was not until I looked up that I noticed one lit room at the end of the hall.…

As I have been typing this essay though I have come to realize that I don’t like writing in the slightest other than for practice, it is too time consuming and it bores me. The part of writing that I seem to struggle with is writing itself. This is due to the fact that I don’t have much to say and once I have finished what I actually have to say I have trouble with coming up with more. The only part of writing that I would say that I excel at is the revision process. I have one writing goal, that being to have better grammar, other goals are financial.…

I was not an excellent writer at the beginning of the school year, but I can gladly say now that I have inherited more writing skills that I will benefit from in the future. One of those skills is being able to reflect on every angle on my topic to allow me to organize my ideas accurately. This skill is beneficial to learn, for it helped with my report essay to acquire the focus of my paper more clearly. Moreover, this skill helped me write papers in my other classes more easily and efficiently. Likewise, my voice can be read strongly throughout the personal narrative essay, because the passion I had for my topic was an emotional one.…

I have always considered my relationship with writing to be very insignificant. Although I enjoy spending time verbally expressing my thoughts and feelings to others, it becomes difficult when these thoughts and feelings are expressed through writing. Throughout my adolescent years, I would often receive feedback for my writing given by the teacher in the form of a grade. Being unable to effectively organize my thoughts and ideas into words and sentences, I would feel reluctant to continue writing confidently whenever I received an undesirable grade.…
