My Trip To Chattanooga

The group I traveled with consisted of three separate vans with an average of ten to twelve people inside of each, including the chaperones. The trip was a planned ride down to Chattanooga to partake in a week of Bible-related activities, as well as help out those people who are in need. The trip is hosted by Harvest Orthodox Presbyterian Church, and I had the honor of being able to be a part of the trip for two of the past three years. It is hard to describe the feeling of being pulled out of a Protestant Reformed lifestyle into a more open and outgoing environment down in Chattanooga. The worship services we attended were full of song, prayer, and an overall feeling of joy and mirth that stretched from the ceiling to the floor. Moving from a controlled and peaceful service into a vibrant and ecstatic gathering was mind-blowing to me, and I had to reflect upon myself of how these people …show more content…
These camps were bible camps created by the place we stayed at: Hope for the Inner City of Chattanooga. Hope trained our group to be ready for when they would send us out into the inner parts of the city to lead the bible camps and teach the kids about the Word of God and introduce Jesus into their lives. Now that I am back from where I started here in Michigan, I look back onto those past two years and am grateful for what God has allowed me to do and the type of person I have become because of my experiences in both the PR circles, but also the circles outside of our inner world. With every passing day I prepare myself for the challenges ahead and am ready to take on any trial or test that God and the world throws in front of my

Camp is place unlike any other. It is a place that people’s wall begin to fall down and new relationships are formed. This is bound to happen when you drop 200 teenagers in the middle of the Smoky Mountains without any of their electronics. I was lucky enough to be chosen for the Project Serve team and got to see camp from a new perspective. I got to be a part of all of the behind the scenes work, but also daily interactions with all of the campers due to my job at camp.…

My family moved to Meridian, MS from California when I was around six or seven years old. Since then, all the way up to the ninth grade, my mother took my sister and me to Saint James A.M.E. Church for Sunday services. One Sunday, a cousin of mine brought me along to the service of her new church, and ever since then I have been attending New Freedom Tabernacle. I have found that NFT has certain qualities about it that have always attracted my attention in ways that St. James could not; so, I became an official member of NFT within a few months of the switch. St. James and NFT are two very separate, distinct churches in a multitude of ways, yet they also carry certain traits that make them very similar.…

An experience that changed my life forever was coming to Northwest Christian for high school. Before I attended Northwest I spent all of elementary school and middle school at Rancho Solano. Although my time there was great, it was taught in a strictly academic worldview. Then during my eighth grade year, I made the decision to enroll in Boulder Creek High School. I began to get nervous because of the change in size, but then I started to embrace the idea of change.…

Jesus Camp is a documentary film released in 2006 where directors Hedi Ewing and Rachel Grady document the events of an Evangelical children 's camp located near Devils Lake, North Dakota. The documentary focuses on the camp its self and the Evangelical Movement, but also on its leader, Becky Fischer, and three of the children in the documentary, Levi, Rachel, and Tory. This film is meant to provide a supposed un-biased look into the camp, and also the Evangelical faith its self. Clearly however, it is meant to show the indoctrination occurring in the camp and their disapproval of the Evangelical movement. This all during a very controversial time in our country in which Evangelicals have helped President Bush to be elected, who now is under…

It began around 6pm on a Friday night and was not concluded till around 10pm. Going into this experience I was not really sure what to expect, however what I took away from it will be a key reminder for me many years to come when discussing other cultures faith and devotion to Jesus. I arrived at the church and was greeted with big smiles and hand shakes as I entered what appeared to be both a fellowship area and childcare area.…

Thesis: Through inculturation and different interpretations of Christianity, the church is catholic or universal. In order for the church to be catholic, it must be able to spread the Gospel with respect to cultural diversities. Culture is the beliefs, customs, and arts of a particular society. The Catholic faith is central to many of the world’s cultures. Yet, through inculturation, the Catholic faith is lived differently in each culture (classroom notes 10-13).…
