takes an analytical approach to both sides of the debate. The skyrocketing rise in interest groups advocating on enforcing tougher firearm policies can be attributed to the incremented insecurities within public places, such as the ones mentioned in the documentary. There are no precise demands proclaimed by these advocates for the exception of “tougher firearm policies.” The theory behind their reasoning is that the implementation of tougher firearm policies would subsequently reduce the number of firearms in the streets and thus lower the probability of disasters like the Columbine and Sandy Hook school tragedies. However in similar fashion, the rise in awareness for the interest group advocating the passionate defense of the American’s right to bear arms, known as the N.R.A. (National Rifle Association), has captivated the American political scene and continues to heavily derail this theory by proclaiming their own.…

the National Guard) away. The pro gun side in a nutshell believes it’s a fundamental right of Americans to purchase and own firearms. Now within these groups there are views expressed on the far left and the far right, some for limited gun control while other feel any ban is unconstitutional. To start, I’m Pro 2nd amendment, to a point, because I’m also pro gun control to a point. It’s my thinking that most people want sane, law abiding citizens to be able to obtain firearms to protect themselves from criminals, while also wanting society to be able to protect themselves from crazy, insane or violent criminals by enacting stricter gun control laws so that mentally deranged individuals are unable to obtain easy to purchase firearms.…

The organization actively fights legislature that would enact gun control laws. Gun control laws are used to protect people and not to infringe on their rights. The way the National Rifle Association fights legislator seems like they want anyone and everyone to have a gun. The NRA is right when stating that guns are a constitutional right, but they are wrong in saying who should get them. Giving someone a gun that was deemed mentally unstable should not be given a gun.…

The Second Amendment, is a very controversial area under discussion in the media. Both advocates for and against gun ownership have been lobbying Congress to gain legislation in their favor for decades. Congress is at a standstill over gun issues and has voted down all proposals on gun control in the legislature. Although regulation is useless against criminals some harm can be avoided through tougher unified gun control, the American people have a Second Amendment right to bear arms, nevertheless regulators must decide who should be allowed ownership of what guns and if any training should be required among other issues, regulation must be clearly defined in order to protect society from needless harm. Proponents of gun control have debated that the Second Amendment only applies to members of militias and does not apply to individual…

This was seen in the frontline video as citizens repeatedly tried to get a stronger grip on gun control against the NRA, but failed due to the NRA blocking new gun control legislations despite the majority wanting stricter gun laws. The NRA is more powerful because their supporters are more organized and passionate than the people who wanted stricter gun control. I quote our president Obama as he said, “this is not going to change unless the people who want to prevent these kinds of mass shootings from taking place feel at least as passionate and are at least as mobilized and well-funded and organized as the NRA and the gun manufacturers are” (Gunned Down: ‘The power of the NRA). This correlates that interest groups are superior in financial resources and it is crucial for them to out strategize their…

Austin, I used to be an NRA member, I am not going to dispute what the law currently allows and that the second amendment was meant for a “well regulated militia”, however your statement “The NRA made a pledge to stand against any legislation that would limit the 2nd Amendment”, does not stand up to the history (until recently) of the NRA. I have read “the Second Amendment: A Biography, many Second Amendment articles and our current class textbook, for reference to my thinking. The NRA was founded in 1871, it was one of the first organizations in favor of gun controls, in fact it was not only committed to gun control laws, it helped to write most of them, until the 1980’s. In the 1920’s the National Revolver Association (a sister organization…

The NRA is recognized as “the premier firearms education organization in the world” (home.nra.org), “as a major political force” (home.nra.org), and “as America’s foremost defender of Second Amendment rights” (home.nra.org). Gun owners are naturally drawn to the NRA by its years of success, education, and service. All of the people who support and belong to the NRA are voters that the Republican Party can also gain support of. By continuing to appeal to those who are affiliated with the NRA in some way, the Republican Party can gain more members and voters, and keep the members and voters that we…

In the past few decades, firearms have had a big impact on society. These impacts have been both good and evil, and have caused controversy on the topic of gun ownership. Some groups, such as the Brady Campaign, would like to see gun control laws take away some rights and restrict others, whereas the National Rifle Association would like to protect gun rights and educate society on the use of firearms. Both sides want to stop the problem of gun violence, but protecting gun rights is the only way to truly insure public safety. Gun control will not be able to stop the use of guns, and it will put citizens in an unfair situation where they cannot protect themselves.…
