Data plays a huge role when owning a cell phone, without it the phone would be basically useless. According to an article in published in The New York Times, the author claims that “instead of talking on their cell phones, people are making use of all the extras that iPhones, BlackBerrys and other smart phones were also designed to do — browse the Web, listen to music, watch television, play games and send e-mail and text messages.” (Wortham) This statement is true on society, because most people tend to a use a ton amount of their data more often. There’s so much to do on their cell phones so they spend more time on it. She also states that they are not in to phone calls anymore, instead “they prefer to spend their phone time moving seamlessly between several conversations, catching up on the latest news and updates by text and on Facebook with multiple friends, instead of just one or two.”(Wortham) It is rare for a person is to talk on the phone unless they feel the need to do so. Now they are adding a data cap on each plan to limit how much data a person can use in a monthly span. They’re noticing that millions of people in the United States are using their cell phone data more than normal. If the data cap becomes more effective, then it could possibly help to lower the amount of cell phone usage each day. Let’s face it; the cost of a cell phone plan is already high enough. When a cell phone user exceeds over their data limit without knowing, their bill will be charged extra because of it. However, they will begin to suffer financially from the unwanted fees. With the use of the data cap on cell phones, people would be more careful when using their data. This could also help people to stay off of their phones every once in a while. People would also communicate more often with others in person rather than using their cell
