What is noble: Nietzsche argues that nobility of any human is not known by his good work but by the self-respect and morality. That distinguishes him from common man. The concept of good and evil is created by aristocratic society. Aristocratic people caste themselves as the noble of society and differentiates between human beings as the highest and lowest rank. He tries to convey that everything fades with the pace of time, even the friendship is changing. The poem begins with the poet calling his friends to join him in the peak in the mountains.
