Future Profession Interview When assigned an interview in my freshman level English class, there was no doubt in my mind that Clint Selman, my honors psychology professor, would be my first choice. Professor Selman is by far one of my favorite professors and I, coincidentally, hope to someday have his exact career. Selman works as a professor of psychology at Tyler Junior College as well as a part-time counselor at the Samaritan Counseling Center of Tyler. He has a lot of experience in the field of psychology, so I figured he was my best option to learn how to get the most out of my education as well as help me better understand the career that I want and how to get it.…
Satyam Shah ACS 103 Diversity Assignment October 13th 2015 Diversity Assignment I interviewed a White Caucasian female who was raised as a Catholic. She is a very friendly and a very nice person. From the interview I learnt how wonderful of a person she is.…
When deciding whom to interview for this paper I first thought about what area of higher education I wanted to learn more about. After thinking of a few different individuals I decided to interview Sabrina Tapps-Fee, a Senior Admission Counselor and Coordinator of the Tour Guide program for the University of Iowa. I decided to interview Sabrina, because admissions is an area of higher education that really interests me. I knew Sabrina had a long history working in admissions and I was interested in learning more about her experiences.…
I think Washburn values diversity because having diversity at a university presents all kinds of thinking and reasoning strategies from different types of students. Also, there are more ways to come up with results and solutions when there is a diverse setting containing students from different backgrounds. In my opinion, I think the most important part of the WU diversity statement is the first sentence that says, “The mission of our diversity initiative is to honor the Washburn University commitment to respect, embrace, enhance and celebrate diversity at all levels of the University and surrounding communities through faculty, staff, student and administrative efforts and community partnerships.” I think this sentence is important because it is stating what the mission of diversity is at Washburn. I support the WU diversity statement because the last sentence states, “Washburn defines diversity broadly to encompass gender, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic class, sexual orientation and identity, disability, age, religion and national origin” and this greatly reflects my views on diversity.…
Consequently, we form bonds with co-workers that greatly impact our lives. Our inner circle and peer group consists of friends, co-workers, and neighbors. The idea of my work ethic falling in line with Christian values has sharpened my view regarding work and my community of peers. I am putting into practice the idea choosing relationships with peers who have a commonality in work ethic. This is an area where I can continue to improve…
For my sophomore religion project I chose to interview June Gromowski, my Grandma. I chose her because ever since I was born I have lived with her. I grew up listening to her stories and she has inspired my faith in many ways. Whenever I struggle with my faith she encourages me with God’s word and tells me he has a plan. I have always found that extremely comforting since I know what she had to go through growing up.…
For my service project I chose to conduct an interview with someone who practices a faith different from mine so I interviewed a Mormon. Some might consider Mormonism to be part of the Christian faith, but I would readily argue that it has differences that are substantial and irrefutable. I had always wondered about the beliefs of the people who spend their youth in ties knocking on doors and several movies made the differences seem pretty extreme. I began to wonder what it is that they really believe and how they can make it make sense in the world that we live in.…
I was raised as a Protestant Christian. I grew up in Evans, Georgia, a small town in the heart of the south and a community where most of the people believed in the same things. I knew a few Mormons, a few Muslims, and a few Catholics, but the majority of the people in my circle were either professing Protestant Christians or raised in a culture of Judeo-Christian beliefs. I’ve always enjoyed talking to people about their beliefs, especially when they differ significantly from mine, but it was hard to do this in the small southern town where I was raised. I moved away from Evans in the middle of my freshman year because my dad got a new job in San Antonio, Texas.…
Sitting one-on-one and having someone open up about their religion on a personal level has been the best way to learn about another religion. I really enjoyed and gained so much knowledge from Danny sharing his feelings, experiences, and memories with me. I am glad that I had this opportunity to no only learn about a religion other than my own but to have gotten closer with someone that is important to my brother throughout this process. I would recommend someone who wants to explore other faiths to utilize this avenue in gaining their knowledge for they will find the experience extremely insightful and…
When I was setting up the interview, she mentioned something that I was much more interested in. She mentioned that she was a cloistered nun throughout the sixties, meaning she was enclosed into a catholic monastery. Meaning she was not given any information of the outside world for eight years, from 1962-1970. My topic quickly became, what was it like being a cloistered nun during the…
My ethnographic research is based on two interviews, participant observation in three universities and also a casual group interview with university students. My interviewee, Mrs. Aoi (all names of people in this paper are fictitious) is a university counsellor with twenty-four years experience in both universities and also high schools. For another interview, I discussed school systems and related issues, including bullying and school caste with Mr. Minegishi, a worker in NPO that provides free schooling and alternative learning opportunities for bullied children without accreditation. Also, participant observation in three universities in Tokyo and a casual group interview with university students offer their unique experiences at cafeterias…
Summary of Interviews I my context I have found people are more receptive to the idea of religious questions than being questioned about one particular religion. I designed my survey to ease into more specific Christian evangelistic questions while still providing valuable data. During my interviews I asked the following questions in this order: 1. Do you have any personal or family religious history? 2.…
For my project I decided to interview my mother’s Pastor. I chose to interview my mother’s pastor because even though I have attended services, I didn’t feel that the Pastor (s) are from my original tradition from when I grew up in Florida. Even though they practice the same religion I felt they were Catholic than Christian’s. To fulfill this project, I contacted my mother to see if she would feel comfortable me contacting her Pastor. After my mother agreed, I phoned her Pastor and asked for her permission to be interviewed.…
Mock Interview Reflection The mock interview was closely related to the topics covered in the readings and in class. Getting practice using the techniques we have been learning in real time, with a real person, made the content more concrete. I was conscious of employing solution focused techniques as much as possible in the short time we had to conduct the interview. While my performance produced mixed results, the practice was a good start to becoming an expert using the technique. Strengths and Effectiveness When reflecting on my performance, I was able to express to the client I was fully engaged in our conversation by intentionally implementing a variety of reflection strategies.…
1. What are the similarities between you and the person of that different cultural group (while responding to this question, please identify the cultural groups and briefly share your rational for selecting that specific individual)? First, let’s define culture. Edward B. Tylor defined culture as, “the complex whole which includes knowledge, beliefs, arts, morals, laws, customs, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by [a human] as a member of society.” (Tylor, 1884)…
