This glossary contains many terms that made part of the Viking culture. They refer to words taken from their mythology, administration in England, their naval technology, their literature, and culture.

Asgard: From the Norse Mythology. It designates the home of the Æsir tribe of gods.
Æsir: From the Norse Mythology. It is the name of a number of deities venerated by pre-Christian Norse tribes and other Germanic tribes.
Alfheim: From the Norse Mythology, it means “land of the fairies” and is the home of the light Elves.

Danelag: A type of settlement requested by Vikings during their raids in Western Europe. Victims would settle in gold or other items with value.
Danelaw: Refers to the parts of England that were under Danish law during the Middle Ages.

Miklagard: Translated as “the great city” By Vikings when they were to the city of Constantinople.
Muspelheim: From the Norse Mythology, it refers to a realm of fire and forms one of the nine worlds of the Norse Cosmos.

Niflheim: From the Norse mythology. It refers to a dark cold place and sometimes connects to the notion of “hel”.
Nidavellir: From Norse mythology. It is also known as Svartálfar and is known to be the world inhabited by dwarves.
Normans: Refers to the people from Scandinavia, who gave their name to the French region of Normandy on the 10th, and 11th centuries.
Norsemen: A term used to describe the people who spoke the Old Norse dialect in the Middle ages.

Ragnar Lothbrok: A mythical Viking ruler and king during the Middle Ages. He is mentioned several times in the Icelandic sagas, but evidence of his true existence is still debated among historians.
Ragnarok: From the Norse mythology. It is described as an event where many waves of apocalyptic events will occur and where the nine worlds and its inhabitants will be destroyed to give birth to a new
