I say that struggle is my first, middle, and last name. It seems like everywhere I go, I attract a misfortunate situation. For example after my parents divorce, my mom, my sister, and I had no where to live for a year. We had to move in with my great aunt, and shared a four bedroom house with six other people. That was also the same year that I was faced with my first act of discrimination. My great aunt lived in a small town in South Dakota, and I was the only African African in my entire grade. During that time, I was upset about our situation and the harassment that I faced at school. Now I see that these experiences benefited me for the better. Living in a house with so many people taught me to be more selfless, and allowed me to get in touch with my African heritage. Being alienated and tormented provided me with more time to focus and excel in school work. Also, I have compassion for people and can relate to those who are being bullied or were
