Professional nursing organizations influence the legislative process.To ensure a high standard of care for patients, and protect themselves from legal reprecussions. In regards to nursing, the law making process should have input from nursing organizations in every specialty. Each state has enacted it's own Nursing Practice Act (NPA), which establishes a Board of Nursing BON). The NPA for each states is a legal document that evolves. The Act can be amended or changed based on the current requirement's for the standards and scope of nursing in a given state. The BON in each state lays out the rules and regulations clearly, and carry the same weight as laws. Different types of nursing are open to different responisbilites and legal consequences
