The choice selected was to change to Ritalin LA 20mg, because it is extended release and will be able to improve the symptoms of staring in space and daydreaming related to her medication wearing off. The client may continue to have an increased heart rate that makes her feel heart funny and the problems with her staring in space and daydreaming may worsen, because the medication effects is not lasting during school entirely. If the family feel as if their concerns are being ignored by the healthcare provide, the risk for non-compliance is heightened. Discontinuing Ritalin and beginning Adderall is not selected, due to the fact that, Ritalin should not be abruptly stopped, the client should be tapped off the medication for several weeks.
