In book 9 of The Odyssey, Odysseus was on his way home after fighting in the Trojan war. Having already angered Poseidon Odysseus lands on the island of cyclopes. Odysseus and his crew end up trapped in Polyphemus' cave, in an effort to escape him and his crew decide to stab out the cyclopes' eye. After hearing that Odysseus is back, Penelope runs through the palace looking for him only to find Athene waiting to show her the way to him. She finds him hugs him and then passes out. After all, that wandering around Odysseus did I'm glad he finally got home to his wife and child even though it was 20 years later than he expected, at least, they can spend the rest of their lives together.
In the epic poem the Odyssey, Odysseus has to overcome a whole bunch of obstacles all because he couldn’t get over his massive ego if he had just been happy after the Trojan war, and hadn't gone to the sea and screamed out that he Odysseus was the best and smartest of all men he would have gotten home without the 20 year detour he had. Towards the end, he kind of lets his ego die a bit because he probably realized that if he didn’t he'd be stuck at sea forever wandering from island to island. Overall Odysseus is an alright hero, but he doesn’t realize his faults till the
