Los Angeles County is the most dangerous place in California because of the gang culture that moves around it (Bartholomew, 2015). Cholo, ese, vato are all words that hispanic gang members use to refer to one another. Here in California, Hispanic gangs began to form during the early 1920s or as also referred to the Roaring Twenties. These groups started to form and get together in their neighborhoods or as known as the barrios. These individuals who got together in these groups all had similar cultures, shared the same language, and customs so in a society where not many shared the same ideas and thoughts as they did it was easy for them to get pushed in together with all the oppression that revolved around them.…

Analysis of Rhetorical Project For this assignment, I decided to work off a subject that truly “strums” a string in my heart, which is racism, particularly the “Stop and Frisk” law which has arised in New York. This unfair law has been in my subconscious, as it strikes me as both illogical, and quite offensive to minorities. While the law aims to create “safety”, as well as eliminate criminal activity, it truly offends those who are suspected of crime, especially when a large sum of those people randomly happen to be POC. And, according to NYPD’s reports, 9 out of 10 of the chosen suspects are innocent. These people are pulled simply because they have a certain “look”, and I find it to be not only offensive, but…

Peter William Sutcliffe otherwise known as ‘The Yorkshire Ripper ' was arrested on January 1st, 1981 after a murderous spree which spanned five years and claimed the lives of 13 women and attempting to murder a further seven (see appendix for details of victims). The case engulfed the nation as one of the most brutal in modern history since that of ‘Jack the Ripper ' in the 1800 's hence why the media adopted the term ‘Yorkshire ripper ' when addressing the case. Although known for the heinous crimes and number of them the case is also infamous for the failings of the West Yorkshire Police force in its hunt of Sutcliffe. The tension throughout West Yorkshire left neighbour suspecting neighbour and women afraid to be out at night alone. Despite the efforts of the police force, it was a standard patrol with an experienced officer who was training another that caught Sutcliffe and brought an end to his spree.…

The conflict and consensus models are two parallel models that work toward furthering the protection of society. The conflict model focuses on preserving the rights of the people while the consensus model focuses on public safety (Cronkhite, 2013). When considering how these two apply to viewing criminal justice as a system it is quite simple. The conflict model creates an urgency to protect the people from harm yet also to preserve individual rights that are guaranteed by the Constitution. If the conflict model is to be applied to criminal justice, then it is important to recognize that laws and policy can be implemented by the criminal justice system to combat crime, while also ensuring that the people do not lose their rights.…
