Patient flow is the progression of patients from the time they enter the office for a visit until they exit the system by exiting the office after a visit. Some of the events that take place during a visit includes, checking the patient in, collecting payment for services, rooming the patient, examining the patient, prescribing medications, ordering test, and checking the patient out at the end of the visit. Some steps occur no matter what system the office uses, whether it is a paper-based system or and electronic system.
