For example, Victoria's Secret has recently faced controversy over photo shopping an already fit model to look anorxically skinny and to have that infamous "thigh gap"(because having your thighs touch is just so unflattering now days). Not only do women have to maintain the perfect American body in order not to get fat shamed but they must also have all the "coolest" clothes to suit their perfect body. Even though style varies from state to state some of the most popular trends are filled with a slew of itty-bitty crop tops and high-waist bottoms. A lot of Americas overall style in the present is influenced from the 90's. From the black chokers to the short floral skater dresses history is seeming to repeat itself within the clothing industry. However even though the clothes might not have a ton of fabric now(crop tops), that hasn't seemed to affect the price. Kanye for instance has a new clothing line that sells a plain, white t-shirt for $120 and it sold out instantly, which just proves that how your clothes look is just as important as how much it costs in America. Unlike America where apparently bigger is better, Japan has been know to prefer their women more petite in body size. There has been scrutiny over a magazine stating that Japanese men prefer their women to be under 5'5" and a C cup breast size (in other words "doll-like"). On billboards around Japan most women are portrayed this way which just simply isn't possible for all women and quite frankly discouraging to most. Along with America Japan has their own preferred choice of clothing. The styles have become westernized and mostly fall under the category of "Street Style" which is a combination of over the top outfits and very feminine ensembles. Skirts are preferred with muted colors and bold, chunky jewelry/hats. Unlike America though Japans clothing tends to be very loose and not form fitting. As for makeup, a more natural look is wanted for women which is honestly more convenient anyway. From the pale, natural skin tone to l eyelashes and eyelids experimenting with makeup simply isn't that common anymore in Japan. Overall Japan prefers a more feminine, natural obtainable
