The class demographics range from both male and females ages 18-22 all with at least a high school education and working towards an undergraduate degree. The class is somewhat racially diverse, and I would assume the audience had members from various socioeconomic statuses and backgrounds.
2. Do you and your classmates share any common experiences that directly relate to your topic that would help you to create identification?
My topic pertains to the use of Performance Enhancing Drugs in professional sports, so while I doubt anyone has any personal experience with these drugs, I think they have a general understanding of the topic. I expect many audience members to have heard about the popular scandals pertaining to performance enhancing drugs such as recent ones involving Barry Bonds and Lance Armstrong. I think most of the new information will be in explaining the positives to these drugs.
4. Based on the survey results and your own analysis, what do you expect your audience’s interest level to be? What strategies can you use to make this topic personally important to this audience?
My survey results indicated that the interest level primarily ranged from “neutral” to “slightly interested” with some outliers. Because watching professional sports is such a huge part of so many people’s lives, I think explaining how the use of performance enhancing drugs can change and benefit the sports industry will lead to personal interest.
