It was the year of 2014 going into 2015 and I was an eighth grader. This was my second year attending Bennett Academy charter school. My English language arts teacher, Ms. Walton, had told to my classmates and me that in mid-November we will begin to start our huge assignment. That assignment was to be completed before the graduation date of May 21st, 2015. Ms. Walton told us that we need to have at least fifty pages and no less.…

Class of 2022, it has been a wonderful three quarters. Remember at the beginning of the year, when we all had the Big Bear trip? Then, everyone was “stiff,” but now, we’re all settled into our daily middle school routine, and many events have passed already. Period 5 English, can you recall us realizing that everyone in The Giver was on drugs? Well, our class was pretty chaotic, and Ms. Gershenhorn had to bribe us to be quiet with the possibility of her doing the dab.…

The bell rings again and the day begins. A few class periods go by before any teachers spark up a conversation. By 3rd period the teachers are talking. Mrs. Flo, Mrs. Beth, Mr. Green, Mr. Mathew, Coach Kenny, and Miss Morre all are down the same hall, and we know that these groups don’t mix. Mrs. Beth had paid Mr. Green to grade some of her papers from a few weeks ago, as Mr. Green was returning the papers for an exchange of $35.…

Throughout the duration of my first academic term at Augustana I have grown in numerous ways. I have become more skilled in many different disciplines that include writing, study habits, organization, and time management. Becoming more skilled in these areas has made the transition from highschool to college much easier. Therefore, much of my growth due to all of the help I have received from a small one-credit class called English 111. The Dreaded Reading Class It was the first day of third grade. I jumped out of my moms car after kissing her on the cheek and hearing the routine “have a good day”. “You have three seconds to make your choice, write or I call your parents!!!” Those words shook me to the core. If my dad got another call for me being a bad student, he might destroy my TV. So there was no other option, I grabbed a marker and started writing on the whiteboard next to this random kid. The day has been already bad in the first three seconds, I cannot imagine how the rest of the day would be like.…

Joining a militia was one of the top things I never thought I’d do, and becoming Special Forces in that militia never made the list. Just when I thought I’d finally fallen asleep. The blazing light that fought to turn the milky white of my eyes to a black crispy crime. I raised my tingling hand that throbbed and as I gripped that white string and let my hand fall I returned to the cool dark. As I thought I had finally restored peace to the land a howling echo rang throughout the kingdom, and only then did I realize it was time to raise my aching body from its eternal slumber.…

After three very important, time consuming, and fun essays, my English 101 class is officially coming to an end. Before entering this class I had very few English classes under my belt; I skipped just about every high school course they offer. Although I am a junior in high school, and younger than most of my fellow classmates, I walked through the door on the first day of class with full confidence. Like I expected, I learned more from this English class, than I ever could have if I stayed at high school with the rest of my peers. Taking this class was very beneficial, improving my writing skills beyond my expectations.…

Through the first semester of Mr. McGee’s senior English A, class there have been many texts that I have learned about. All of these texts have been influential, and a major part of my education, there has never been a text that I haven’t appreciated, no matter how many annotations there were. There were many authors like, Shakespeare, Chaucer and Swift. Through each of the pieces of literature we covered there were more and more lessons learned through each one and no matter how well I did on the test I always know that by the end of the text that I benefitted from themes and ideas that were beautifully displayed to me and I will never forget them and how important they are.…
