Personal Narrative-Assisted Living In A Rehab Center

Improved Essays
I have to say 2015 was a pretty good year for me. Of course to go along with those good things of course there has to be some that aren’t as wonderful. An example of this would be like when my grandma had to go to the hospital. She had to go because she was becoming very ill since our grandfather had died. She hadn’t been out of her house in a very long time; she hadn’t moved from the couch much rather than to eat, use the restroom, or something had to do something she absolutely needed to do. Since this happened my family had to take her to a hospital. After she went to hospital she had to go to a rehab center. She just got released from the rehab center, and now is living in an apartment building that is like an assisted living place. Even though she is in the assisted living place she still has our family come up there to help her a lot. We had to adjust our schedules a lot in order for us to be there for her. Thankfully I had some traits that helped me get through this tough time. …show more content…
I feel like flexibility means we had to be there when she needed us.Since she is out of the rehab center she needs more help with a lot of things in her daily life. An example of that would be that we would be planning to go out to eat. Then all of a sudden she would need something, so we would go over there; to help her and then continue on with our day after we had helped

In the article "Finding the Flexibility to Survive" by Brighton Earley, the author found a way to turn her family's struggle into a strength by imagining it in a different way. She used the word flexibility a lot in her writing, which only shows how mature she was at such a young age. For example, towards the end of the article, she writes "Just because at this point in my life I am struggling does not mean that I will always struggle. " She continues to explain how being flexible in her life has helped her through tough times, constantly reminding herself that thing wont always stay the same.…

My clinical experience so far has been quite interesting, because I learned basic clinical procedures and preventions that I know will benefit me as a nurse in the near future. During lab, we discussed infection control, personal hygiene, and isolation precautions. These procedures impact my personal health and wellness, because I need to ensure that I am using the proper techniques in order to keep me safe. Also, I know that it is important to make sure my patients are not at risk of developing hospital associated infections.…

Like any other clinical experience, going into the Salvation Army I set goals for what I would achieve during my learning experience to focus my learning and enrich my knowledge base. My first personal goal was to go into the experience with an open mind and allow myself to learn more about this population and the people I would care for. This goal was achieved because I can talk about moments that I experienced that contributed to my growth of knowledge and awareness to this population. This goal was reached by sitting with multiple individuals over their meal and talk to them about their hardships and what they were going through. This allowed me to share my compassionate heart and listen to people who needed someone to talk to and hear about…

I went to an Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meeting, held Wednesday at the 12 Step Club, located inside the Yard Birds mall, in Chehalis Washington. I had gone down the day earlier in the week to make sure I knew all the logistics, where, when and how long it would take, whether or not it was an open meeting, and so forth. The room was in a shopping complex the size of a small mall (305,00 square feet to be exact), and the room itself looks like it had retained the furniture and paint from when it was originally constructed forty-five years ago. Frankly it looked cold, old and moldy, with bleak, dirty, concrete block walls. The gentleman I talked to had long pony-tailed grey hair down his back, of an age impossible to determine, was washing dishes…

My interests in counseling is fuel by hurts and pain of people I observed throughout my lifespan. From the time I could speak, I saw family members, being taunted, by traumatic event that occurred throughout their lifespan. As I watched the hurt and pain of others consume them, I watch them suppressed the pain, in a harmful matter. For the future suppressing the pain, like substance abuse became an unconscious systematic coping method for stressors. Furthermore, as years progressed the hurt and pain presented itself through violence, verbal, and physical abuse.…

The people who I know in long-term recovery have no desire to consume cocktails and wine at this point in their lives; they have acceptance and aren’t living in denial any longer. Sure, it’s possible for relapse to happen even after ten years of recovery, especially if there is a major structure change in an individual’s life; however, they know what the problem, the solution, and the program of action is by that point in their recovery. I can’t help but wonder if Sally is the creation of a marketing, or advertising department, or maybe she just white-knuckled her recovery for ten…

The inspiration that I have received from my grandmother and mother has driven me immensely, but it was through my work experience that furthered my aspiration to become a Clinical Nurse Leader. My time spent working and volunteering at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, has taught me the importance of selflessness. Everyday I did my job to the very best of my capabilities, which meant coming in early and staying late. I expressed compassion and empathy to anyone that walked-in or called-in to the clinic. I found great joy in knowing that I was part of a team that aided in the well being others.…

I was employed at a local nursing home at the early age of 18 and I became very attached to my residents as well as learned how to aide a variety of different people. I learned how to take care of residents that had physical complications as well as mental behavioral issues. I worked in a nursing home called Salt River Nursing Home which housed about 80 residents at a time. I worked in an area called the Special Needs Unit in which held about twenty patients that suffered from dementia or Alzheimer's. The residents were housed in an area that required twenty four hour watch, they were required to wear bracelets that made sure they didn't leave their area and at any given time I had twenty residents and pulled fourteen hour shifts several days…

On what started as a normal day for a three-year-old, I had pulled out all of my Barbie dolls from the toy chest. Just as I was about to send Barbie on her next adventure, my dad ran into the house, shouting loudly, “Girls!
